UAE: Expunge Activists’ Convictions

© 2011 Samer Muscati/Human Rights Watch

This photograph uses the "Rule of Thirds". It can be observed when we mentally "break-up" the image into thirds.  In this photo we can see that in the intersections of these rectangles are objects that clarify the meaning of the picture; for example, the U.A.E. (United Arab Emirates) flag in the left corner, the open door at the opposite, his folder in the right side (with what it seems to be his belongings), and finally we can observe his arm around his wife; this in sign of relief. Also it balances the photograph by moving the darker object or negative space (wife's dress) towards the center; this for the reason that in the left there is many light.
With these resources the photographer can easily capture what happened in that instant. It shows the moment when Ahmed Mansoor is released from Al Wathba prison on November 28, 2011 after being charged of "threatening state security and insulting the Emirate's leaders". (Shah, A. Russian Missile

Jose Luis Castañeda

This image was taken on Moscow, Russia at the Red Square in May 23, 2012

I like this photo because it has several elements that make it a very good picture, for example the colors that it has are really different and the contrast of the dark green of the missile launcher in the front against the Kremlin that has so many different colors in the background. Besides the colors contras the meaning contrast that is shown in this photo is really amazing, how in a public square with people and tourist is a big missile launcher truck. It highlights a lot against the civilian population that is in that same place. Other element that makes this picture good one is that it respects the rule of thirds, by having at least one element or object to focus in each quadrant. If you analyze this photo in every corner it has one interesting element in which you can focus, in the center it has the missile launcher that gives it a sense of power that attracts your attention, in the superior quadrants we can see the Kremlin towers and other building that makes you keep watching the whole photo.

Ugandan soldiers serving with the African Union Mission in Somalia on patrol in Mogadishu

War is a very bad word, because it has so much anger, hate, blood, weapons and death in just 3 letters. Every country that has been at war knows how does it feel to be threatened by other countries or how does it feel killing millions.

This is a very interesting picture because it shows 3 soldiers on duty for the African Union Mission but their faces are not very happy. I think this is because they don't want to do what they are forced to, like attacking a country that has never done anything to them. Destroyed buildings can be seen in the background and I think it means that they are in a dangerous zone, they are holding heavy weapons and bottles of water, I could say that they are going to attack from far away but maybe they will be under the sun.

I chose this picture because I liked how it is well distributed, 2 soldiers in the back and one in the front showing his shoulder with the Ugandan flag. The expression of their faces attracted me, and it can be seen that they are worried.

Photo of oil in The French Guayana

This is the photo I choose for the article I founded about oil founded in the French Guiana, I choose this image because it makes me understand much better the article, in here we can see a beautiful cost located in the French Guiana, a sun rising, a gorgeous background, but also the oil well and with this we can notice that this picture was taken purposely; why?, because the sun rising let us know that is a new day and a new discovery, and give us the feeling of peace and calm.

Also this image respects the rule of thirds, if we imagine and divide the photo in 3 x 3 we can notice that in every small square theres an action, and this is an other why I choose this image.

The french Guyana finds oil near it coasts

Oil was founded for the first time at the french Guyanas coasts. This research was found 150 km at the east of Cayena at 2000 meters deep in the ocean.

This is the first discovery of oil in the Guyana, so this will improve the economic income for this country. The Shell company is en charge of the extraction of this oil and they tell us that they are really glad with the results of this discovery. This was told by David Lawrence, the person en charged of the extraction. They are just allowed to excave 6000 meters underground so they will have a lot of oil to take out.

For me this is really interesting because is the first oil discovery in this place so it is so nice, and also it will improve the economic income of this country, so this will be so helpful for the residents. Also they don`t have like to much experience, because is the first discovery, so i think they must start thinking on how are they going to exploit this event.

I also think that people over there might be so excited because it is the FIRST time with this kind of surprise and also it means that they can have not just one or two but many discovers like this one, so they don't know what other surprises are going to be in their way and teach us that the world is so small and just when we think we are near to know everything something like this can happen.

Photo: Anders BREIVIK, the Norway disrespectful terrorist.

This picture Shows Breivik, the Norway terrorist face to the court. He killed 77 people on the 22 June. This photo takes place in a tribunal, where the Breivik’s trial has been judged. We can observe that the terrorist raised his hand in the air with clenched fist. He shows his motivation and his determination face to the court just before the judgment. In the first plan, we can see Breivik who is wearing a suit and seems to be ready and determined to be judged. This is a sign of provocation which illustrated his disrespectful. In the right hand corner and also in the left hand corner, policemen are ready to secure and put the terrorist to his sit. On the right, we can see a lady, maybe his lawyer. On the background, there is a camera which probably recorded the trial.

Romeo Langlois, a french prisioner in Colombia

Link of the picture: http://article.wn.com/view/2012/05/31/Freed_FARC_hostage_heads_to_France/

In this photograph we can see clearly applied The Rule of Thirds because when we mentally divide the photograph, and we have the four points, we can see in each point an important element of the photo which give a meaning.

In the upper left point we can appreciate the camera with which Romeo was recording the scene of his release. In the upper right point we can see closer the face of a soldier that is watching Romero, but with an angry face. In the bottom right point we see closer the hand of Romeo, greeting people. Finally in the bottom left point we can appreciate military boots which represents that those people are soldiers, which are guarding Romeo.

This photograph clearly express the news, because it talks about the release of an important journalist that was kidnapped in Colombia, and his release.

Julia Gillard create "super-tax" on mining profits

This picture is a photo by Marie Nirme. As we can see on this picture, Julia Gillard meets minors. We can see that she seems determined. This photo respects the rules of third because The Prime Minister is not on the center of this picture even if I think she is the main character. In the foreground, there is Julia Gillard pointing the lens of the camera with two fingers like a gun. In the background, there are minors who themselves have a great smile. I think that Marie Nirme want to show us a real contrast between the determination of Julia Gillard and the smile of minors. There is also a contrast between the colors of the jackets. The Prime Minister jacket is lighter orange while the minors jackets are dark orange. This contrast show us that she is the boss and also she takes the decisions. In my point of views, it is a good picture because it is not easy to take a photo to illustrate a new tax. However, I think this photo shows us the determination of Julia Gillard.

Blog 2: Afghanistan

Afghanes people manifesting against military carnage in February 2012 separated from the liberty with barbed

We can see on this picture that the picture is actually full of elements. There is no empty place. At the foreground, we see a soldier waiting and looking at the afghan people. In the background, there are the afghan people showing that they are angry against the military forces. They put their hands in the air because a lot of their friends died in a military carnage. If we imagine the four corner in the middle of the picture we see first a helmet, then an afghan who is crying, then the barbed wire and at least the military clothes. The all color of the picture are bland, even the sky is not blue. This type of color for a picture add sadness and feeling of chaos. Which is exactly what is happening in this part of the world. People are occupied since 10 years and they get fed of this situation. This picture illustrates really good the feeling I was explaining.

rule of thirds

http://extrados.mforos.com/620677/3742615-alta-tension-fuerte-ataque-a-el-libano/?pag=6

I chose this picture because when I did the imaginary lines, two horizontal and two vertical, I saw that it was using the rule of thirds because of the four intersecting points that are showing the smoke, the minefield, the car burning and the army. These four things are the most important  as they are the main point of the news. In the picture we can also see that there is a lot of smoke coming out the car, which makes this side a little dark. But on the bottom it is the green grass, so this balance it. On the other side we can see less smoke but at the top of the side it is clearer that the other, for that reason it is balance.

Death toll from Italy earthquake rises

An earthquake reached Italy on this Twesday afternoon. This was a 5.8- magnitude earthquake and destroyed a large area in the northern of the country leaving 17 deaths. It was just 9 days after a 6.0 -magnitude earthquake that reached the same area and left 7 deaths. After this earthquake it seems that another 50 occurred at night. The northern of Italy is the main manufacturing industries `s areas and that is why this earthquake will impact seriously in the economy of the country. Many of the victims were factory workers. As a way of financing the recovery after the earthquake, the government implemented an extra tax of two cents to the gas`a price. The government also declared June 4 a day of mourning.

In my option, first of all, a region such as the northern Italy, which was reached by a disaster with deaths, should never allows the same to happen leaving more victims. The  factory buildings should be prepared to avoid earthquakes and other kind of natural problems. This tragedy affects Italy in a moment of crisis, what makes things worse, since the country is not with a stablish economy and the earthquake reached a region of high economy importance. So this add of two cents  in the gas`s price will not be enough and the government has to make the right decisions in order to preserve the safe of population and save the economy.

Blog 1: International Apology

Today I read some Polish news broadcast, and I was really surprised to see that there has been much agitation lately of which I wasn’t even aware of. First of all, I got serious trouble finding news in English, so I had to go through a very careful research of information and facts, and I had to determine which datum interested me the best.  I picked this article because right now I’m living in the United States and I find it really important to know more about the relationships between the country I’m researching and the one I’m going to be a part of for over a month. I also considered the fact that I had a close experience with Memorial Day in Washington and New York City and that The Holocaust is one of my favorite periods to study in universal history, so I really got attracted by this article.
Basically, it is about a speech President Barack Obama gave during the ceremony of Memorial Day. He was merely complementing and acknowledging the work of Jan Karski –a survivor of the Second World War –and he finished it by saying what the Polish people consider to be the most implausible of insults: “Polish death camps”. Right now, there is a political dispute around an apology owed to Poland strictly by the mouth of Barak Obama, and I can’t say they aren’t in their right. However, the Secretary of Relations already established there will be apologies.
I think that in politics this happens often, and perhaps it isn’t a serious matter as some might think, but it isn’t a trifle either. History is what defines the people all around, and some events are pretty dark, such as the extermination of Jewish people. If we consider that Poland was brutally attacked by Germans and that they weren’t exactly agreeing to a concentration camp in their territory, it was an outrageous mistake and defamation the statement Mr. Obama made. However, I understand that mistakes are human and that one does says things once in a while that can seem bad. I think the lesson in all this is that leaders should be smart enough to take care of such mistakes but also humble enough to acknowledge them and offer apologies, especially when it concerns a historical event that still remains in people’s minds and hearts. That’s the only way we’re going to improve as an international community.

Blog 1 Netherland Trials-Angel E Suárez

A few days ago one of the most polemic cases in the history of the netherlands was reset, the trial of a former officer of the serbian forces during the balkan wars of the late 1980's and the early 1990's accused of planifying the mass murder of 8,000 muslims. Judges in chargeof this case allowed the case to be staged until last week due to the fact that the prosecution had been late in delivering evidence, judges did in fact turn down the request form the defense which asked for an extra six months of preparation time for the trial. Ratko Mladic has been facing charges of crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide.

It has been a while since Mladic has been facing these charges, ever since the balkan wars about 20 years have passed by and not a single move was made in order to agilize the trial, this trial has either been decided as not important or Mladic has really good connections which seems the least likely, trials of this nature should be taken care of as soon as possible in order to get fresh evidence and in case that the evidence was rigged in some ways it'd be easier to determine it (testimonials, objects, etc.) this has certainly not been planned well, trials of this nature are to be treated as soon as possible and as carefully as possible, although of course the 15 years that he had been hiding are an important factor which contributes to the tardy trial. The reasons behind the orders he issued more than 20 years ago are known, he was following orders from Slobodan milosevic who was the former president of serbia and yugoslavia, he had the intention of assuring the dominance of the serbs. Could the orders of this former president be enough to make him commit such brutal crimes against his own kind (humans) or was it his troublesome childhood and later suicide of his daughter, some reasons are know others remain unknown, is a monster really a monster after knowing what made it a monster? I think it depends, but a monster should seldomly be forgiven

Article #1: Germany, in Reversal, Will Close Nuclear Plants by 2022

Germany, in Reversal, Will Close Nuclear Plants by 2022

The Government headed by Angela Merkel decided in May of 2011 close all of the nation’s nuclear power plants in almost 11 years. It was an unexpected change in the Angela’s Merkel government and this decision was taken because of the disaster of Fukushima Japan. This plan may help to promote the use of renewable resources. But many disadvantages found are; the decrease of the economic growth, increase or inflation in the price of all the energy all along the continent. “…Germany consumes nearly half of the total electricity supply.” That’s what Judy Dempsey and Jack Ewing said. So this means that it won’t be an easy work.

Many ecological people that belong to associations were glad about Angela’s Merkel decision, “…The embrace of clean energy represents a transformation based on the politics of the ballot box.” According with Judy Dempsey and Jack Ewing. So this is a kind of advantage to Angela Merkel.

If the plan is not as it was prepared, that means if there are not enough alternative sources of energy the nuclear energy plants will be kept producing till the 2022 year. In total, Germany has 17 reactors and 8 of them are not working.

In my opinion this article I very interesting and has many points of views; for example the advantages are that if the nuclear energy plants are closed it will be less susceptible to live a tragedy as the Fukushima’s and is also a good way to reutilize the natural resources.

The disadvantages that I found in the shut of nuclear plants are; that they would have to import energy of anyway from France and that will be pretty hard, that at the same time equals to an increase on the price. So the idea it’s ok, is pretty friendly with the environment, but they would have to invest a lot of money if they want this project working perfectly. What is clear in this article is that to get this project is necessary to work hard and use as many resources as they can to replace in some way the work that the nuclear plants do.
