Blog 4 : Power of tourists in Thailand

First, like most developing countries, Thailand benefits of many tourists who visiting this country. This represents an enormous power for Thailand because tourists spend a lot of money. This allows it to grow faster than some of its neighbors such as Burma.
This country each year attracts about 20 million tourists, which is about 20 billion of revenue annually. This figure may seem low enough to countries like France or tourism accounts for more than $ 60 billion but this represents over 15% of GDP in Thailand. Tourism plays a very important role in the development of Thailand but also for its economy. This represents a very important power because if there are more tourists will visit Thailand this going to create a big problem for their economy.
Also the fact that many tourists go to Thailand, it forces the Thai government to be more flexible with respect to human rights. But also with respect to new law that will affect tourism in Thailand. This means that if the Thai government wants to put in place laws that will not please the Thai, there will be demonstrations, or small civil wars and so there will be fewer tourists who want to go to Thailand and then a loss for the Thai economy.
Tourists in Thailand are therefore an important power for development of this country. But it also represents a threat to welcome tourists as Thailand built many new hotels and destroyed part of the forest around. More tourists consume plenty of water both for their shower, but especially for swimming pools or golf courses. The power of tourists in Thailand is very important and allows its development but you have to encompass otherwise it will destroy a part of the charm of Thailand is its fauna, flora, and pristine landscapes.
