Change of power in Lithuania

Change of power is when the ideology of the government change. Lithuania is a baltic country in which many political changes have passed. Lithuania is a country with a big history, in political changes, starting from 1918. I will talk about the main changes of power in Lithuania.

First of all, Lithuania declared its independence from Russia in 1918 due to the "anti-russian sentiment" and the collapse of the russian government. This new republic grew under the protection of the German. In 1940, Lithuania was annexed to the Soviet Union in 1940. In 1941, Lithuania was attacked by German soldiers and occupied until 1944. By this time, the German army killed 240,000 jews in Lithuania. Lithuania was annexed to the Soviet Union again in 1944.

In 1988 another movement to get independence was taking place. "In 1990, Vytautas Landsbergis, the non-Communist head of the largest Lithuanian popular movement (Sajudis), was elected president. On the same day, the Supreme Council rejected Soviet rule and declared the restoration of Lithuania's independence, the first Baltic republic to take this action.", according to Infoplease. Lithuania got its independence until 1991, when the Soviet Union and the United Nations accepted formaly the independence.

In conclusion, Lithuania is a country with many political changes along its history. Until 1950's, Lithuania had four political changes, and the changes were radical. In 1991, was the mist important change, because the ideology of Lithuania change from communism to democracy, this happened in 1990, when Vytautas Landsbergis was elected president. I think that Lithuania is a young country, in which many political changes have passed. Also Lithuania is a country with many potential to continue its development. For example, the nuclear power plant that is planned for 2020.
