Netherland trials (repost)

A few days ago one of the most polemic cases in the history of the netherlands was reset, the trial of a former officer of the serbian forces his name Ratko Mladic. During the balkan wars of the late 1980's and the early 1990's he was accused of planifying the mass murder of 8,000 muslims. Judges in charge of this case allowed the case to be staged until last week due to the fact that the prosecution had been late in delivering evidence. Judges did in fact turn down the request from the defense which asked for an extra six months of preparation time for the trial. Ratko Mladic has been facing charges of crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide.

It seems unfair to me how 20 years have passed by since Ratko Mladic has been set for trial, and not a single legal move was made due to the lack of evidence. The trial has been delayed over and over again. Over the years at least some evidence must have been recovered for using it during the trial so most of the claims must not be true. There is a slight possibility that Mladic had some connections with some politicians a few years ago while he still had some remnant of the power he once had. Certainly, the trial has not been delayed on purpose, it has rather been delayed by the efforts made by general Mladic for hiding himself and the evidence of his past crimes.  The reasons for Mladic’s crimes are unknown, yet there is suspicion about one of them, it has been said that what caused this were orders from a superior and former Yugoslavian president Slobodan Milosevic.
