Blog 6: Perosphere

How Perosphere is perceived in France?

Let's start first by defining what Perosphere is. It comes to Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan. These populations are relatively unknown by the French people. For the simple reason that these people are not very present on french territory. There is a strong Muslim community but it is not from the Middle East, it is from North Africa instead.

How these communities are they perceived by strangers, in this case the French people? First of all for us, women have no rights, they are veiled from head to toe, are beaten and forcibly married at the age of thirteen with a husband they do not know. This image of women is somewhat pejorative. But these stereotypes come to us with the French TV channel and newspaper. The ambient misery in these countries suggests us that they are not really civilized. Furthermore, we believe that this part of the globe is the heart of the global terrorism; it's really pejorative for those peoples who are undoubtedly very welcoming and as civilized as the Europeans. But the war in these areas by the UN, the U.S. and Europe reinforces our idea that they have something to hide because we are at war against them. We also believe (wrongly) that everyone in this area is rich from oil. This part of the world is hiding in fact a large part of world reserves, but those who profit are a minority in these countries. The richest share nothing with the poorest. There is a large gap between rich and poor, even more than in Western countries.

In conclusion, we Europeans are very judgmental against these people. Obviously because we do not know them at all. The French don’t have the same culture and are not open to this kind of culture. I hope anyway from my point of view that these stereotypes are false. And that these people may one day be in peace and so try to develop themselves. Something that would normally be the case after more than ten-year war.
